Global equities advanced modestly in August, returning 0.65% in Australian-dollar terms. Markets rallied through the first half of the month as economic resilience and a healthy second-quarter earnings season supported risk appetite. Gains moderated later in the month, however, as rising bond yields and elevated oil prices renewed concerns around inflation and the outlook for interest rates.
